YOUR NEW PUPPY

Your new puppy is eating EUKANUBA PUPPY FOOD the hard kibbles. We suggest you keep the puppy on Eukanuba for at least 2 months. If you choose to change the food do so by mixing the new food 50/50 and increasing slowly until the pup is on the new food. Please remember your puppy is a baby and you must make sure it eats and drinks in a reasonable amount of time after you receive the pup. Your puppy will not eat a lot of food at one time that is why it is important you SEE them eat and drink. They also need rest time like a baby. Yorkies tend to use more energy then they can reproduce in a short period of time. If your puppy becomes listless and has no energy it is having a sugar low (Hypoglycemia) you can give the pup Nutri-Cal as soon as possible (it comes in a tube and you can get it at any pet store). You also need to contact your veterinarian for immediate care.

Taking good care of your puppy is important!!

CRATE TRAINING

After feeding or watering your puppy, take the puppy out as early as 10 minutes after they finish.
Make sure the puppy gets praised for going potty outside each time they go.  ex:  good boy, good girl, maybe even a small treat.  Try to take them to the same spot each time.  If after 10 minutes they haven’t gone take them back inside to their crate.  Try the above again in about 10 – 15 minutes and keep repeating until they go. They have to learn that going out is for eliminating and not playing, that’s why they shouldn’t stay outside longer then 10 minutes. The crate that is used should be just big enough for them to stand up and turn around comfortably.  If it is too big that gives them room to eliminate and still have room enough to stay away from their elimination. The puppy should always be in its crate if it is not supervised. After the puppy has accomplished potty training and is trustworthy not to chew or go potty inside they can still use their crate for sleeping.  They consider their crate as their den and feel safe and don’t mind being there. Small dogs usually take longer to learn housetraining so be patient.  It doesn’t happen overnight, it may take weeks or even months depending on the dog and your consistency in training.  Puppies can usually hold it as long as they are old.  Meaning if a dog is 4 months old it should be able to hold its bowels/bladder for 4 hours without an accident.  If an accident happens never yell at them after the fact.  If you catch them immediately take them outside.  You can use a firm no! Or get a soda can and put a few coins in it to use. You shake it when you catch them this startles them and again take them right outside.
You can use vinegar and water on pet stains to avoid re-soiling an area.

This form of potty training takes patience and consistency for it to work.
